Zeltser unable to climb stairs to face trial

US citizens Emmanuel Zeltser has to be carried on hands into the courtroom as his health condition remains very serious.
The Minsk City Court opened hearings of the criminal case against Zeltser on July 30. The trial takes place behind closed doors, because the case is classified as a state secret.

Zeltser is charged with document forgery, drug trafficking and commercial espionage. He is facing up to seven years in prison.

Zeltser's lawyer Zmitser Harachka told the European Radio for Belarus the following::

"The courtroom is located on the forth floor. Zeltser is almost unable to walk, so guards have to carry him on hands up to the forth floor".

However, the health condition of Zeltser cannot influence on the course of the process, according to Harachka. It also remains unclear when the trial could be finished.
