Zaika: Lukashenka has realized that Customs Union is swamp

The Belarusian leadership has begun to understand all the dangers from this country's membership in the Customs Union with Russia and Kazakhstan. Economy expert Leamid Zaika is confident that recent statements of Alexander Lukasheka are proof to that. Leanid Zaika: “Lukashenka has played too much, and this intergrational customs swamp has begun pulling Belarus. He can see now that the goals that he had (access to cheap Russian resources, certain preferences) are not working. The Belarusian leadership has finally realized that there are no real benefits. And Lukashenka reckons that if this continues this way, we should not proceed to the Customs Union. He is right about it.

On March 11 Alexander Lukashenka said in a statement that the functioning of the Customs Union must meet the interests of Belarus. He stressed that the Customs Union was doomed to failure if any additions or revisions in the previous agreements were to be introduced.
