Will “Basowiszcza” viewers get free visas?

“Mroya” and “Bonda” will take part in the jubilee “Basowiszcza” and there will be no contest for new bands.
The 20th “Basowiszcza” will take place despite of the fact that the preparation for it has just started. It will be announced next week whether Belarusians will be able to get free “festival” visas or not. The deputy head of the Belarusian Union of Students in Poland (BUS) Kasya Kuzmich informed ERB about it:

“We are conducting negotiations about free visas for Belarusians with the Polish consulate. I think it will be clear next week. It would be good if at least some people could get those visas”.

As ERB has found out, there will be no contest for new bands this year.

It has been decided to organize “a flashback” of all the previous festivals at “Basowiszcza-2009”. “Krama” will perform songs of “Bonda” and “N.R.M.” will perform songs of “Mroya” to return to the origin.

Kasya Kuzmіch: “You could listen to those bands at Basowiszcza 10 years ago. “N.R.M.” have agreed not to make a separate concert of “Mroya”. They will prepare a special programme of “Mroya”’s songs during their performance and will perform as “Mroya” band. “Krama” will sing “Bonda”’s songs.

It will not be possible to invite all winners of previous Basowiszczas – many bands do not exist now. The same can be said about the first laureate of “Basowiszcza” – a Polish band RF Braga. Some of its musicians live abroad or have stopped practicing music.

“It is something to think about”, - says Kasya Kuzmich. – “It turns out that bands arrive at “Basowiszcza”, win the contest and then stop existing in a while”.

“Basowiszcza” organizers are looking for the festival headliners now.

Kasya Kuzmіch: “We will decide whether we can afford “Lyapis Trubetskoi” one of these days. We need a star that could attract a lot of people from Belarus”.

It is already clear that a lot of former laureates have been invited. A Byaroza band “:B:N:”, “IQ 48”, “Zygimont Vaza” will arrive and “DetiDetei” will perform in Haradok for the first time. ERB has found out that there will be no restrictions for bands singing in English. The organizers only advise learning at least one song in Belarusian.

“You must understand how a band signing in English is perceived! – assured Kasya. – “I think it is a problem. However, if you ask us whether bands singing in English can take part in Basowiszcza, we will answer “Yes!”

A special video to make the word “flashback” live is being prepared.

Kasya Kuzmіch: “The Polish TV recorded and made reports about festivals that took place in, say, 1994-1995. We will use this material to show what “Basowiszcza” used to be and what it is like now”.

ERB will continue watching the preparation for the most famous open-air festival of Poland.
