President Alyaksandr Lukashenka has made another forecast for Belarus and Belarusians for the coming years. Last Friday, a reception was held on his behalf, timed to coincide with the old New Year. Lukashenka presented state awards (Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei received the Order of the Fatherland of the III degree). In a speech to the audience, Lukashenka noted that the year 2019 would not be the same for everyone -- easy for some, but difficult for others.

“But I dare to say for sure that for our country, for our people, not only 2019, but 2020 will not be easy,” he said, according to BELTA. “These years will not be easy, because, frankly, during these two years we will be put to the test, on the subject of whether we are, tp put it bluntly, worthy of the independence of which we constantly speak everywhere."

Lukashenka stressed that Belarusians should be ready to answer this question. He is convinced that the “decent answer” will be found. It is clear that the whole thing is about the relationship between Belarus and Russia.

“The year will be difficult, but very interesting,” promised Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
