United opposition amends election lists

The Political Council of the United Pro-Democracy Forces on June 8 amended the single list of opposition candidates for the 2008 parliamentary elections. In two constituencies in the Vitsebsk region, the Party of the Belarusian Popular Front and the United Civic Party withdrew their nominees for the sake of the representatives of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, reports Belapan.
In the October district constituency in Minsk, Viktar Ivashkevich, a deputy chairman of the Party of the Belarusian Popular Front, will be nominated instead of another party candidate. Anatol Lyaukovich, a deputy chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) noted that the single list could be amended further if necessary. He also said that the United Pro-Democracy Force had already completed several important stages of preparations for the parliamentary elections. They have formed a single list of potential candidates, approved an election platform. They also share a common strategy over the election participation format but do not have a consolidated budget, Lyaukovich said.
