Uladzіmіr Matskevіch: Deputies are not ready for Europe
A group of deputies of the Polish Seim would like to consider the possibility of creation of a Belarus-Poland parliamentary group. Are there any chances that the Belarusian Parliament may be recognized while there is a thaw in the relations between Belarus and Europe? The head of the Polish parliamentary group on Belarusian affaires Robert Tishkevich thinks that there is no need in an interparliamentary group now. That is why the question is still open.
A political scientist Uladzimir Matskevich thinks that Belarusian parliamentarians are not ready for cooperation:
“The House of Representatives has been recognized de-facto for a rather long time. On the other hand, the Belarusian Parliament delays complete recognition and cooperation with European parliamentarians. That is why I can understand the Polish Seim in both issues. On the one had, it is necessary to cooperate with the Belarusian Parliament to make it perform some changes and on the other hand it is clear that the Belarusian Parliament and parliamentarians are not ready for this cooperation”.
At first parliamentarians have to study as they lack qualification – says Mr.Matskevich:
“Education should be organized – some profound courses for Belarusian parliamentarians because they are functionally illiterate to participate in European processes”.
It is necessary to create such interparliamentary groups in order to approach the real legal recognition, thinks the political scientist:
“The House is recognized de-facto. Now they have to make some steps to be recognized legally and to start real cooperation. This can only be done step by step. Working groups of the kind may be created at first. It would be a good step”.
