Ukraine issues Orsha Battle coin (photo)
The victory of the GDL Army over Moscow had international significance, the coin description says.
30 thousand 5-hryvnia coins are made of nickel silver (consists of copper, nickel and zinc). An image of the battle and inscriptions Battle of Orsha and 500th anniversary are displayed on the coin. 4 swords, Ukraine’s state emblem and the year 2014 are on the other side.
The 500th anniversary of the Battle of Orsha was marked on September 8. The GDL Army consisting of Belarusian, Polish, Lithuanian and Ukrainian troops led by Konstanty Ostrogski defeated Moscow Army on that day in 1514.
