UCP candidate Anton Zhylko jailed for 5 days

Zhylko was accused of an unauthorized action. He will stay at liberty until the appeal hearing, BelaPAN reports.

The activist was detained near the entrance to the metro station Traktarny Zavod at about 4.15 p.m. on March 21. He was giving out invitations to his meeting with electors at school #87 and to March 25 action in Minsk together with his trustee Hanna Kanapatskaya.

Although the Freedom Day meeting and manifestation had been allowed by Minsk City Executive Committee, an administrative violation report was drawn up. The court announced that Zhylko had violated the Law on mass actions. Invitations to the Freedom Day actions cannot be part of a pre-election campaign, the court decided.
