Two Kurapaty vandals amnestied

Two residents of Minsk, charged with destroying the memorial crosses in Kurapaty, have been amnestied. Belapan reports that the measure was applied because the young men had been under age at the moment of committing the crime and the article they were charged under is covered by the amnesty.  The two youngsters were detained in Kurapaty by civil activists when they were breaking the crosses installed at the sites of mass executions by Stalin's secret police. They were charged with malicious hooliganizm and could get up to six years in prison.

Investigation into two more similar cases is still under way.
