Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and her campaign headquarters do not agree with the early election results announced by Central Election Commission chairperson Lidziya Yarmnoshyna on August 10. She also commented on the brutal dispersal of protests in Minsk in the evening.
"I was confident the authorities would not make such a step. The things that were happening yesterday are unacceptable," Tsikhanouskaya told reporters.
"We are ready for long-term protests," Maryia Kalesnikava, a representative of the campaign, added.
Kalesnikava also said that last night she tried to call Interior Minister Yury Karayeu and Chief of Staff at the Presidential Administration Ihar Syarheyanka and ask them to stop violence against the protesters. However, they have not replied.
Kalesnikava also that the united headquarters will wait for the final election results to be announced on August 14 and make a decision on what to do next.
The elections in Belarus ended with mass protests across the country. The Interior Ministry said around 3000 people were detained. "Protest outbreaks" were spotted in 33 cities and towns.
