Yarmoshyna, chairwoman of the central election commission, said that
transparent ballot boxes can be used during elections in Belarus, but
money and initiative is needed. "[Transparent]
ballot boxes are not banned. If you have money you can order and cast your
ballot into a transparent box. The law is not specific about it. This is a
matter of those who equip polling stations. By the way, we have transparent
ballot boxes in rich organizations. If an organization can afford it, go ahead
and order it. But if this is to be specified in the law, additional funds would
be needed. Quite a big amount," she told ERB.
She
added that a request from foreign organizations to finance the purchase of
transparent ballot boxes may be considered.
