Trade unions demand pay rise

The Trade Union Federation of Belarus has called to raise the minimum wage up to the minimum consumption budget or by over Br 100,000, Federation Chairman Leanid Kozik told journalists in Minsk on November 28. The minimum monthly wage currently amounts to Br 220,080, while an average consumption budget for a family of three is Br 346,190.

According to Kozik, the rise should be implemented "as soon as possible". "Small businesses must find money to pay higher salaries. If they can't, they should merge into bigger companies", he said.
