Thirty-seven political prisoners released in May

As of June 6, there were 1,511 political prisoners in Belarus, human rights activists Viasna reported.

Moreover, the number of political prisoners in the country is increasing weekly, even though several dozen political prisoners are released from prison every month.

According to Viasna, in May 2023, at least 37 political prisoners were released, 27 of whom had fully served their sentences. Another seven were sentenced to "house arrest" and released from pre-trial detention, and three political prisoners were released under an amnesty.
