Supreme Court shuts down Green party
The Supreme Court today ruled to liquidate the Belarusian Ecological Green Party (BEZ). The judge upheld the arguments from the Justice Ministry that the party had actually stopped operation after it failed to introduce amendments into the founding documents.
Another failure of the party is that it has little or no members and local organizational cells in most of the country's regional centers and in Minsk.
The interesting thing is that the party liquidated itself back in March 2007, but the Justice Ministry did not see it as a legal procedure because only 15 members attended the dissolution meeting.
The former party chairman Mikalay Karatysh did not appear during the hearing. But judges read out his letter in which he agreed with the claims of the officials and asked to review the case in his absence.
