Super typhoon Haiyan hits Philippines, people dead (video)

The super typhoon reached Samar province in the eastern Philippines 600 km away from Manila on the morning on November 8.  The 5-category power typhoon has brought winds reaching 315 km/h with gusts reaching 370 km/h. The waves hitting Samar and Leyte shores are 5 metres high.

Haiyan is passing the Panay Island at 40 km/h now.

About a million Filipinos are hiding in shelters prepared in the central provinces of “the country of seven thousand islands”. Ships are not functioning, hundreds of flights have been cancelled and schools and governmental institutions have been closed there.

Meanwhile, the damage done by the natural disaster is being assessed in Samar. The whole province has been left without electricity.
