Student found guilty of IT crimes

A 21-year-old student from the Brest University was sentenced to five years and three month in prison for crimes in the IT field.

The court in the town of Zhabinka, Brest region found him guilty of developing a harmful software, sabotage, extortion and fraud.

The law-enforcement agencies spotted the young hacker back in September 2004. During a set-up transaction, the man sold spying software to the police undercover agents.

Police also revealed that the man used Internet for extortion and sold answers to the Centralized University Tests.

The judges proved 116 counts of IT-related extortion. The young man is facing a high-security correctional facility.
