Strange phenomenon: boiling water in a well

While some Minsk dwellers have to do without hot water because of waterworks repairs an inhabitant of the Zatsitava Slabada village Alyaksandr Manyuk keeps getting boiling water from his well.
He found boiling water on the morning of March 10.

Alyaksandr Manyuk: “So, I got up in the morning. Then I took the bucket and put off the cover from the well. I was immediately surrounded by steam – it was like fume from the chimney. When I took out some water it was warm. I went to my neighbour to take some water. She said: “But your have your own well, don’t you?”. It may seem funny. I said: “I do but the water is hot”. She came to check – it was true. My water was clean but warm. I used it to wash dishes. It turned cold four days later.

The district natural resources inspection found out that the water temperature was about 50 or 60 degrees. But they haven’t managed to find the reason for such a phenomenon. The deputy head of the republican rnitary enterprise “Belgeologiya” Yaraslau Hrybіk says:

“We haven’t found any man-caused streams to change water temperature at that depth. That’s why we think it may be caused by some deep-laid phenomenon.

We might analyze geophysical signatures to see if there are any deep-laid breaks which cannot be seen from the surface. It may be radon coming out from the interior of the Earth. We will get helium pictures and carry out some other research”.

Alyaksandr Manyuk made the 10-meter well 40 years ago. The level of the water there is 3 meters. It had always been cold before. There are no geysers or thermal springs nearby.

The village of Zatsіtava Slabada is situated on the right bank of the Svislach. The only local spring is 6 degrees and flows into the river. Boiling water in wells is a rare thing for Belarus. But it happened several times. The head research assistant of Homel State University, geologist and physicist Adam Pіnchuk says:

“I am not sure whether it is true but I read that water in one of the wells near Kastsyukouka was hotter than normal water. Tectonic activity is increasing all over the world: there are more earthquakes and tsunami. Maybe we are feeling it too.

Fore example, the most active Belarusian district is Palesse. Water temperature may reach 100-150 degrees at the depth of 5 kilometres here (near Svetlahorsk, Parychau, Barshcheuka and Rechytsa). So, all the water getting to the surface will be warmer than usual here. It can even be called hot – 50 or 40 degrees”.

The hot water is not dangerous for your health. But it is not recommended to drink it too often. It does not contain any kind of poison but it can be too salty or contain substances that can affect your health badly if consumed in a large quantity.

Alyaksandr Manyuk’s farm is small – he has only one horse. So he watered the animal using the water from his neighbour’s well. Now the water temperature in his well is decreasing.

The taste and the look of the water are normal. So Aliaksandr can drink water from his own well again. Unfortunately, he didn’t manage to make a bath-house using the water from his well.
