Slovakia to represent president of the European Council in Belarus


The EU Council presidency passed to Portugal on July 1. Slovakia will be representing the president of the EU Council in our country.
Germany presided in the EU from January 1, 2007 till July 1, 2007. On behalf of the European Union this country urged Belarusian authorities to start cooperating with the EU in the framework of the European policy of good-neighbourly relations.

It was stressed that to start the cooperation the government had to stick to democratic values, protection of human rights and priority of the law and to be ready for democratic reforms.

Germany also urged to release all Belarusian political prisoners.
