Rights group to demand Belarus PM to investigate high-profile disappearances

The International Federation for Human Rights will demand the Belarusian government to investigate "high-profile disappearances", Secretary General Luis Giermo Perez said at a press conference in Minsk.
"We want the Belarusian authorities to understand that these crimes do not date back to the past. Those crimes will remain in the present until those people or their bodies have been found", Belapan quoted him as saying.

Human rights activist Ales Byalyatski said in an interview with the European Radio for Belarus that the problem of high-profile disapperances in Belarus would always remain acute for rights defenders until "we know the truth". But in the current situation, he does not see any chances to move forward in the investigation of disappearances of Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski and Dzmitry Zavadski:

"There is nothinig much to hope for. But this issue should definitely not be forgotten".

Activists in Brest plan to stage a picket to mark 9 years since the disappearance of Viktar Hanchar and Anatol Krasouski. It is yet to be known if the action has been okayed by the city authorities.
