Rescuers prevent explosion of petrol tanker on Polatsk-Vilnius highway (photo)

A petrol tanker caught fire on Polatsk-Vilnius highway. According to preliminary information, the fire started because of a short circuit in the accumulators.
The driver had tried to remove the battery on his own before rescuers arrived but he was badly injured. He was delivered to a resuscitation unit with 40% of his skin covered with burns.

Rescuers poured foam and prevented an explosion this way – the tank did not become depressurized and the 15 tons of toluene remained untouched.
