Netherlands Finance Minister becomes Eurogroup president
Jeroen Dijsselbloem has been appointed new president of the Eurogroup.
He was elected on late Monday, January 21. 46-year-old social-democrat Dijsselbloem was the only candidate, foreign mass media note.
He has replaced Jean-Claude Juncker, Luxemburg PM, in the position. Juncker was elected head of the Eurogroup in 2005.
Dijsselbloem became Netherlands Finance Minister in November 2012. He has been an MP representing the Labour Party for 12 years.
The Eurogroup is an unofficial structure coordinating the EU member states' financial policy.
