“MTBank”: It was our hosting provider’s problem!

Confidential information sent by clients of one of Belarusian commercial banks – “MTBank” – appeared on the Internet on the evening of August 10. It contained questionnaires filled in to get credits or plastic cards which contained names and surnames, passport information, addresses, cell phone numbers and code words. According to different sources, about 5000 questionnaires appeared on the Internet.

It is not clear if the people have become the bank’s clients or not, - the marketing department of “MTBank” is making excuses:

“It was not the list of clients of “MTBank”, it was the list of physical entities who visited the bank’s website to fill in preliminary applications online”.

“MTBank” apologizes to people for the incident and informs that an internal investigation has been started in the bank. However, “MTBank” blames its hosting provider for it:

“The information became accessible not from the bank’s internal servers where our clients’ information is stored safely. It became available on the external server of the company that provides hosting services to the bank’s website”, - stressed an “MTBank” employee.

The hosting provider temporarily blocked the website of “MTBank” at about 6.30 p.m. yesterday. The problem has been solved and the website functions now. However, the questionnaires can still be browsed in the cache of the computers that accessed them yesterday.
