Minsk negotiates with Washington
Lukashenka' assistant Valyantsin Rybakou has met with Deputy Assistant of the U.S. State Secretary Daniel Russell in Washington.
According
to the information provided by BelaPAN with a reference to the Belarusian MFA, at the
meeting they discussed "issues of mutual interest". The contacts
between the Belarusian and the American diplomats increased after appointment
of Uladzimir Makey as a new Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Besides, on November 15 Rybakou made a speech at the session of the UNO General
Assembly in New York, on the problems of reforming the Security Council. He
said that Belarus saw the UN Security Council as the key element in maintenance
of international peace and security.
Alongside with that, Rybakou said it was necessary to reform the Security
Council. The Belarusian side supports increase of the number of members by
providing all regional groups extra places in the Council. The Belarusian
representative turned attention to a small number of Eastern European group
among the temporary members of the Security Council.
