Sannikau remains in prison

Minsk City Court considered of a series of appeals, filed by the presidential candidates, convicted for Square events, as well as by a number of young people, convicted under the same case. Appeals of Andrej Sannikau, Ilya Vasilevich, Aleh Hnedchyk, Uladzimir Yaromenak and Fiodar Mirzayanau went first. The hearing started at 10.00.

Judges Siarhej Khrypach, Victoria Zaitsava and Volha Kamarouskaya, who were considering Andrej Sannikau's appeal, have attached the OSCE's report, which contradicted the court's decision under which the ex-candidate was convicted, to the case. Alongside with that, the same judges declined the lawyers' request on Andrej Sannikau's personal presence at the hearing.

Let us remind you, the Partyzanski district court of Minsk, having considered the case of mass disturbances of December 19, 2010, sentenced Andrej Sannikau to 5 years of imprisonment in a reinforced-security colony, Hnedchyk - to 3,5 years of imprisonment, Vasilevich, Mirzayanau and Yaromenak - to 3 years of the same.

Appeals of Mikalaj Statkevich, Dzmitry Us, Aliaksandr Klaskouski, Aliaksandr Kviatkevich, Zmitser Bulanau, Andrej Pazniak and Artisom Hrybko, also sentenced for mass disturbances, will be considered on July 19.
