Germany elects President
This is human rights defender from Western Germany and former Lutheran pastor Joachim Gauck.
His candidature was supported by nearly 1 000 members of the Federal Convention which includes Bundestag members and representatives of the federal lands. Gauck's closest rival, journalist Beate Klarsfeld, got 126 votes. Historian Olaf Rose got only 3 votes. 108 deputies abstained from supporting any of the candidates.
Let us remind you, Germany's former President Christian Wulff was forced to resign in February as allegations of corruption emerged.
