First photos from Mars rover vehicle Curiosity

The most perfect machine ever sent to Mars sent the first photos from the red planet. There are no rivers, which Curiosity is supposed to look for. There are only the mountains and the sand of the endless Martian deserts.

Curiosity’s start for Mars took place on November 26, 2011, and the soft landing in the crater Gale – on August 6, 2012. For several months, the unit has to cover about 20 miles and analyze Martian soil and atmospheric constituents. The rover (or rather an interplanetary chemical laboratory) is several times larger than its predecessors: Spirit and Opportunity.

NASA constructors created a special capsule in order to make the landing of Curiosity really soft.

Curiosity will wander around the surface of the red planet for about one Martian year - approximately 700 Earth days.
