Czech Republic holds presidential election

There are three women among the presidential contenders - journalist Jana Bobošíková, doctor Zuzana Roithová and actress Táňa Fischerová. As for the persons known also in Belarus, there is MFA Karel Schwarzenberg. According to the latest public opinion polls, the most popular registered candidates are the two former PMs - Jan Fischer and Miloš Zeman, Radio Liberty informs.

Previously, the President of the Czech Republic was elected at the joint session of the two Chambers. This year is the first time when the whole country elects a President. According to the new legislation, the election will be held in two rounds. The candidate who gets more than a half votes in the first round wins. If this doesn't happen, the most successful candidates will continue their competition in the second round.
