Bresters stock up on cheap suits in funeral shops
Another means of saving money in Brest Province is… coffins. People buy them to preserve money.
A funeral shop sales assistant, Halina, has informed about it.
Halina: "Our coffins are the cheapest – 165 thousands. The wreaths are from the old delivery, the new ones will be available at new prices. People come and ask: how much will a funeral cost? Out mother is bed-ridden… They also order monuments. They need to invest their money somewhere. They say that the state has deceived them again, that they could not buy a monument in the Soviet time either because their money depreciated. So they order monuments in advance… and store them in sheds”.
Women have taken notice of cheap funeral suits. They borrow them to try them on, remove the labels and buy them for their living husbands. Halina thinks that this investment is twice as advantageous. The suits are cheap (VAT is not imposed on them) and they preserve their money.
