Biggest fragment of Chelyabinsk meteorite found

Scientists of the Urals Federal University found it near Chebarkul Lake not far from Chelyabinsk, informs BELTA. They decided to treat it for preservation so that it won't acidify, and to send it to Moscow for a thorough examination. The search for more meteorite fragments is ongoing, and the found pieces will be studied carefully.

The meteorite fell on Chelyabinsk on February 15. The meteorite shower was recorded in five regions of Russia: Tyumen, Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan and in the Republic of Bashkatarstan. More than 1500 people got injuries, including 311 children.

The restoration works are in progress in Chelyabinsk - they restore the buildings damaged by the explosive wave caused by the meteorite fall.
