Berezovski's last interview: I idealized democracy in Russia

The journalist published the interview on Saturday, March 23, a few hours after the information about Berezovski's death had appeared. The famous oligarch told him that he wanted to return to Russia. "I underestimated my love of Russia. I cannot be an emigrant," the journalist quotes Berezovski.

He changed his mind in London, the entrepreneur explained: "I idealized the possibility of establishing democracy in Russia. I idealized democracy in the centre of Europe. I underestimated Russia's inertness and overestimated the West a lot."

He experienced much more reappraisal and disillusionment than Hadorkovslki (imprisoned since October 2003), Boris Berezovski confessed. He lost his reasons to live and does not know what to do, the entrepreneur said.

Berezovski's death was announced at about 8 p.m. Moscow Time on March 23. Doctors were called at 3.18 p.m. GMT (7.18 p.m. Moscow time),  the medical service of Agence France-Presse reports. Berezovski's body was found in his bath-tub by a bodyguard, British mass media report.

The police are investigating the death of the 67-year-old man whose body was found in his house Ascot, Berkshire. The authorities have not provided any details, Lenta.ru reports.

Boris Berezovski sent a letter to the state leader a few months ago, the Russian President's spokesman Dzmitrii Peskov told journalists. He confessed that he had made mistakes and asked Vladimir Putin for permission to return to Russia.
