Belarusians’ trial to continue in Libya

Let us remind you that Libyan insurgents detained 25 Belarusian citizens in August 2011. All of them were accused of repairing the defense technology that was used by the Gaddafi regime “to eliminate the Libyan people”. The detained claim that they were hired for oil exploration.

The previous trial on the case took place on May 21. Representatives of the Belarusian, Ukrainian and Russian Embassies attended the trial. On the next day, the Belarusian MFA provided information that there were four citizens of our country under trial, not three as it had been informed before.

This is what Alyaksandr Astrouski, the head of the Chief Consular Administration of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has said at a press-conference in Minsk:

"Four Belarusian citizens are under arrest, they have been detained by different military formations. Three of them are in custody at the same place, together with the Russians and Ukrainians. The fourth one is in another place, with a Ukrainian. The conditions are not good. They stay in the attached premises - the gym and the canteen".

According to him, representatives of the Belarusian Embassy in Libya visit the detainees once a week, providing them with medicines and an opportunity to call their relatives in their home country.
