Arrests of opposition activists start in Kazakhstan
The National Security Committee of Kazakhstan conducts searches in the country's former capital Almaty in connection with disorders which happened in Zhanaozen
Several people have already been detained, including an independent journalist and an opposition politician. In the observers' opinion, repressions against those who criticize the current authorities have started in Kazakhstan, ВВС informs.
Apart from this, the special services conducted searches in the office of an unregistered opposition party "Alga" in Almaty, as well as in the apartments of some activists. Leader of the party "Alga" Uladzimir Kazlou and several his allies were detained on that very day.
Let us remind you, on December 16 in the city of Zhanaozen, South-West of Kazakhstan, there were clashes between the police and the oil industry workers, who demanded higher salaries. As a result, at least 16 people died, about a hundred were injured.
