Relief fund is created for Belarus in Brussels

"The European Fund for Democracy and Partnership” has been created in Brussels. It is meant to support democracy all over the world including Tibet, Belarus and Cuba.
“Europeans should support people fighting for human rights in China, Belarus, Burma and Zimbabwe”, - said the honorary President of the fund Václav Havel.

Besides the Czech President, a former German President Richard von Weizsaecker, a former head of the European Commission Jacques Delors and former Ministers of Foreign Affaires of Denmark and Holland will work in the Fund for Democracy and Partnership.

The Fund is going to fulfil decisions of the European Union and carry out its own projects. It has promised to become a less formal and more pliable institution. “We are helping ourselves by helping those who need it”, - said Václav Havel during the opening of the fund.
