Pro-Europe protest action in Budapest

Several thousand people gathered in front of the Parliament building in Budapest on Sunday. They were protesting against the anti-European orientation of Viktor Orbán’s government.

The demonstrators demanded that the government refused from its pro-Russia policy and stuck to the EU principles. A number of the EU member states are worried that the right-of-centre Hungarian government sympathizes with Russia during the conflict in Ukraine, BBC reports.

The protest action was dated for the visit of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Budapest. Russian President Vladimir Putin is supposed to visit Hungary in two weeks.
