Price of Russian gas to be defined in January 2008 – “Beltransgaz”
The price of Russian gas supplied to Belarus will be defined in January 2008. The deputy director general of “Beltransgaz” Vinerii Valchuha has informed about it.
According to him, Belarus is not likely to agree to the price suggested by “Gazprom”. The representative of “Gazprom” reminded that according to the contract the price is defined with the help of the formula – 67% of the general European cost in 2008.
However, Vinerii Valchuha thinks that the formula is imperfect because “you cannot see all its components now”. That is why he thinks it will be necessary to wait till the beginning of 2008. “Beltransgaz” hopes “Gazprom” will understand it.
By the way, the Belarusian government thinks that the best price for the next year will be 130 USD per one thousand cubic meters (Belarus is paying 100 USD now).
The Russian Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov already said that Russian gas will cost from 125 to 150 USD per one thousand cubic meters for our country in 2008.
Let us note that a Russian edition “Kommersant” informed referring to a source in the Russian company that “Gazprom” would start negotiations about the price of gas for Belarus in 2008 in November.
