Positive changes are caused by foreign-policy issues in Belarus

The head of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Aleh Hulak informed about it at a press conference in Warsaw.
According to him, the regime is changing the form of its behaviour because relations with Russia have worsened and it is necessary to improve relations with the West. That is why there are no more political prisoners in our country today and there are no severe political repressions.

Aleh Hulak: “I do not want to say that it testifies to the fact that the Belarusian regime has changed and that it has stopped violating human rights. Unfortunately, it is not true. The gist is the same. But the form has changed because the conditions have changed. Relations with Russia have worsened. It has become necessary to improve relations with Europe”.

Mr. Hulak also said that there were positive changes in the election campaign in comparison with the previous elections. However, the changes are not enough. Only 42 representatives of the opposition have become members of election commissions while the general number of members is 6.5 thousands.
