Police propose to ban alcohol sales on July 3

But this initiative was rejected by the organizing committee for the Independence Day celebrations. Minsk Mayor Mikhail Pavlov backed the decision of the organizing committee, saying that banning was a wrong approach. "We should not restrict people on this festive day," Pavlov said.

Nevertheless, several district officials in the capital insisted on banning the sales of cheap low-quality wines.

This proposal is being reviewed.

Besides, Pavlov ordered the police not to be tough with those who "did not calculate their capabilities".

“Even if a man has drunk too much, he is our citizen. Nobody gave anyone the right to degrade his honor. This rule should be implemented not only during festivities but also on ordinary working days," the mayor concluded, according to the Minsk-Naviny news agency.
