Police catch Ales Chyhir on the eve of Lukashenka’s arrival

An activist of the movement “For Freedom” Ales Chyhir was detained in Babruisk on the evening of May 29. The detention of the opposition member is probably connected with the visit of Alyaksandr Lukashenka to Babruisk planned for May 31. Ales Chyhir was caught near his house on his birthday. He was getting out of a taxi together with his wife and children. The opposition member was delivered to the District Department of the Interior. According to his wife and adherents, he was made to lie down on the floor and then he was handcuffed. Activists saw the policemen who had searched Ales’s flat not long before beating the activist.

Chyhir’s trial is taking place in Babruisk today: he is accused of hooliganism and disobedience to the police.
