Over 10,000 HIV positive patients registered in Belarus

10,336 HIV positive cases were registered in Belarus as of September 1, 2009, or 718 up over the past eight months. In the first eight months of 2008, the number of HIV positive patients increased by 545 people. Almost 7000 HIV positive patients are aged between 15 and 29 years old.

Drug injection is identified as the main way of spreading the infection, with 53.9 percent of the total figure being drug abusers. But in the past eight months of 2009, 76.5 percent of patients got infected throough a sexual intercourse, reports Belapan.
