Opposition refuses from Council of Intelligentsia's mediation to pick 'single' candidate

Opposition politicians have decided to refuse from mediation of the Council of Belarusian Intelligentsia to select the single presidential candidate, European Coalition leader Mikalai Statkevich told Belapan news agency. The decision was passed on August 11 during a roundtable meeting with participation of representatives of the pro-democracy forces. According to opposition politicians, since the Council singled out 5 contenders, it thus lost its neutrality in the issue of nominating the single candidate.

Another meeting of the round table chaired by Council chairman Uladzimir Kolas will take place on August 13. Further meetings will be chaired by one of the roundtable meeting participants. Next week, the meeting will be chaired by United Civil Party leader Anatol Lyabedzka. Kolas will participate as an ordinary member.
