Nurse to help handicapped family with newborn child

Ivatsevichy District Executive Committee has decided to pay for the nurse to help the handicapped family bring up their baby.

Two social workers will work part time, head of the labour and social protection department of Ivatsevichy District Executive Committee Nona Kalesnikava told BelaPAN. “Each nurse will help the family for 5.5 hours a day including the weekends,” Kalesnikava said.

As soon as the nurses are appointed, Hanna Bahur and her son will be able to leave Ivatsevichy hospital. The local budget will be used to pay the nurses.

Hanna and Anatol Bahurs are handicapped (1st disability group). The woman is suffering from an extremities anomaly and her husband – from cerebral spastic infantile paralysis. Their first baby was born on July 21. The boy was born healthy but the authorities wanted to take him it away from the family because his parents could not bring him up according to the existing medical norms.

The situation changed after Minister of Labour and Asocial Protection Maryana Shchotkina had visited Ivatsevichy to study the problem.
