New devaluation may be carried out gradually: expert

A new devaluation can take place in Belarus. By the way, one of IMF's conditions for Belarus is to devalue the Belarusian rubel in a short-period by 5-10 percent, reports AFN citing Chris Jarvis, the head of IMF mission that visited Minsk.
Natalia Kaliadzina, the permanent representative of the International Monetary Fund, did not confirm this information to Euroradio. "I have not heard such statements. Naturally, I can't confirm it", said she.

But, prominent economist Leanid Zaika thinks that we should expect a new devaluation, especially in summer when Belarusians go to their country houses or to holiday destinations. "They don't have a big choice of actions, you know. A new devaluation can be done smoothly, gradually. They can devalue the rubel down to 2900 against the dollar, then to 3000 and 3100..., especially during the holiday season. Everyone is gone, and they can carry out a smooth devaluation. So that when people return, they will say: "Hey, we did a good thing by having exchange rubels to dollars", Zaika said.
