Movement “For Freedom” and “Malady Front” not to participate in elections

Eight out of thirteen members of the Political Council of the United Democratic Forces have expressed their desire to participate in the future elections in the House of Representatives.
They are the Belarusian Communist Party, Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada – party of Alyaksandr Kazulin), United Civil party, BNF, Labour Party, Women’s party “Nadzeya”, Green party and entrepreneurs.

Five members of the Political Council refused to participate in the elections – Movement “For Freedom”, Belarusian Social-Democratic Hramada (party of Stanislau Shushkevich), Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (People’s Hramada - party of Mikola Statkevich) and the party of Progress and Justice.

The Political Council of UDF has adopted the document concerning elections in 2008. There are 286 names on the preliminary list of contenders for becoming candidates.

The Greens and entrepreneurs have not mentioned their candidates yet so the list is expected to include up to 300 people. Thus we can predict that the contest will be 2.6 persons per one “democratic place”.
