Minsk youth organize action “We want to study in Belarusian!” (photo)

Youth activists have organized a traditional action “We Want to study in Belarusian” in Minsk today. A sculpture “The Memory of descendants” has been installed near the “Nyamiha” underground station. It was made out of small pellets. A doll “negro-aborigine” was placed on top of it with the inscription “Minister of Education”.

The doll is holding a Yanka Kupala book cut in two. Scraps of paper cut with a shredder are hanging down from it. A broken portrait of Yanka Kupala and one more torn book of the writer were lying on the ground nearby.

Youth activists launched a foam plastic ship in the river. Its sail symbolized a book of Belarusian for first-formers. An aspen stake was driven in the bleeding book.

An action participant Franak Vyachorka informed ERB about it:

“The action symbolized the State machinery eliminating everything that is eternal and untouchable: the language, the culture, the history, the literature…”
