Ministry of Natural Resources objects to more peat extractions

The Belarus Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection have concerns over the plans of the government to increase peat extraction in this country, Deputy Minister Valjancin Malisheuski said.

According to the experts, peat burning is economically inefficient, he noted. In his view, it would be more profitable to use the peat fields as natural spaces for the perennial plant cultivation.

Malisheuski noted that the peat output had dropped 18 times against 36 million tons extracted back in 1976 in Belarus. No major peat field has remained in this country as of now.

The Ministry of Natural Resources suggests that it would be more efficient to use waste wood and the water and wind energy as the local alternative power resources, reports Interfax.
