Mihail Zhyzneuski’s coffin carried about Kiev (photo report)

Opposition leaders came to the cathedral – Vitali Klichko, Arseni Yatsenyuk and Oleh Tsehnibok. They were the first to enter. The Belarusian’s body was delivered at about 1 p.m. Six UNA-UNSO members in camouflage and black masks were carrying the coffin.

The funeral service took about an hour. Half of the present could not attend it. Thousands of Ukrainians came to bid farewell to the Belarusian and there was not enough room for them in the cathedral and on the surrounding territory. The queue started far beyond the cathedral gates. The coffin was carried from the cathedral to Maidan and barricades after the funeral service. The traditional Sunday people’s council was cancelled because of it.

Homel Inhabitant Mihail Zhyzneuski left Belarus about ten years ago and spent his last years in Bila Tserkva, Ukraine. He was an active member of the nationalist Ukrainian organization UNA-UNSO. He started taking part in Maidan protests at the very beginning. He died in Grushevski Street on January 22. He was shot through the heart and died on the spot. The details of his death and the name of the person who shot at him are still unknown.
