Lukashenka: We should engage in a dialogue with US

"We should engage in a dialogue with the US", Alexander Lukashenka said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on November 11. The televised version of the interview was broadcast by the Belarusian State Television on November 14. According to the president of Belarus, "one should return to the stage in Belarus-American relations which was before the crisis. At the same time, Lukashenka reminded that the American diplomats from the US Embassy in Minsk were sent from the country after "they engaged in a struggle" against the authorities in Belarus. Lukashenka noted that "we have great perspectives" in the trade with the United States. "If there had been no sanctions, we would have supplied products worth around $1 billion to the American market this year. We could have had $10 billion in trade turnover and the prospects in this regard are still high". The president also noted that "American investments are important" for Belarus. "The US-made high-tech equipment is very important for us. But if Americans do not sell it, we will find it in Europe or Asia", he said. At the same time, Lukashenka admitted that Belarus was more interested in a dialogue with Europe, even from the geographical point of view.
