Lukashenka set to meet Hugo Chavez in Russia
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenka next week will take part as a guest of honor among 11 other heads of state from the former Soviet countries in an open meeting of the Russian State Council in the southern city of Rostov-on Don. The meeting will be presided over by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez will also be in Rostov as a guest of honor.
The Venezuelan leader is expected to continue talks about the expansion of cooperation with the local helicopter plant, which has already supplied 9 helicopter gunships MI-35M and cargo helicopters MI-26T.
Sources close to the government suggest that it is while in Russia when Lukashenka will introduce Viktar Sheiman as Belarus's new envoy to Venezuela. Viktor Sheiman, a long-time Lukashenka's henchman, was recently dissmissed from his high-ranking post of the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, reports AFN.
