Lukashenka sacks state military industrial committee chief

The head of Belarus has dismissed Sergei Gurulev from the post of the chairman of the State Military Industrial Committee at the consent of the sides, according to Presidential Edict No 219 signed on June 20, reports the Press Office of the President.

Sergei Gurulev was born in 1953 in the Chita oblast of Russia. He graduated from Blagoveshchensk Higher Armored Troops Command School in 1974 and Military Armored Troops Academy in 1986. Gurulev also graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 1999. In 1974-1999, he served on various posts in the Armed Forces of the USSR and the Republic of Belarus.

In February - December 2001, he served as the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus and First Deputy Defense Minister. 

He became chairman of the State Military Industrial Committee in December 2009.
