Lukashenka rejects government proposal of 'indiscriminate privatization'

Лукашэнка адхіліў прапановы ўрада па "беспадстаўнай прыватызацыі"

Aliaksandr Lukashenka has rejected the government's proposal of "indiscriminate privatization" and change in the system of the state property privatization. He stated this on Monday during the governmental meeting.

Lukashenka stated that there is a clear and transparent system of privatization in Belarus: the investor is to obtain the approval of the staff, and then - of the local authorities, the government and head of state. He recalled that there should be a very careful approach to this issue, because "there is the work of generations, of our grandparents and parents."

Aliaksandr Lukashenka does not rule out "privatization from above." This is when the investor comes with the proposals, which should give a quick and significant effect, and brings them directly to the government or the head of state. But in this case Lukashenka is solely responsible for the change of the form of ownership of a particular enterprise. "I will not give anyone a single brick for nothing, because it has colossal work invested in it," BELTA quotes the head of Belarus.

Lukashenka stressed that every enterprise in our country is subject to privatization, but "under certain conditions". This is to ensure workers' rights to fair working conditions, modernization of enterprises, increasing tax revenues to the budget, etc. "Other [privatization] is not needed by the country,"  said Lukashenka.
